2020-05-19: MSSL 2020 Spring League Cancellation

Fellow League Members - your BOD met on Monday, May 18 for our first monthly meeting since February.  As a result of COVID19, the County of Riverside continues to be closed to team sports.  For this reason the BOD has decided that we have to cancel the remainder of the Spring 2020 season.

We are staying close to Valley Wide as they take their direction from the County of Riverside as to when we can safely resume play.  Of course safety of our league members is our first priority.  When we can safely resume play, hopefully in the very near future, we will play under our normal Summer rules.  Because most of us will need some time to get back into softball shape we are anticipating a two week ramp up before picking teams and beginning a summer schedule. The plan is then to have our normal Fall draft in August and start the Fall season in September.

Again, like each of you we are anxious to get back on the field and we will do so as soon as safely possible.  Stay tuned, we will continue to communicate to the league as news becomes available.

2020-06-08: RESUMPTION OF MSSL SOFTBALL (HOPEFULLY)
In the near future, we expect fields to reopen and softball to be back.  The plan is to start with a 2 week Spring Training to get our bodies back to the well-oiled machines we left in early March.  This would be followed by games through August using Summer Season rules.

In order to adequately prepare for this (calculate prorated player salaries, rosters, schedule, etc.), we need to determine who will be participating this Summer.  Our Spring Managers should be contacting all their players shortly to identify those who are interested in playing.  Anticipate the call.

Play ball - hopefully soon...

2020-02-25: THEFT AT WHEATFIELD
One of our league members had their vehicle entered in the Wheatfield parking lot during games on Tuesday, 2/25.  Credit cards, debit card and a significant amount of cash were taken.  Please make sure to lock your cars, guard your valuables and be aware of suspicious activity.

2020-06-30: MSSL Summer League Update
MSSL League Members - waiting to get started has been tough on us all.  If you have driven by Wheatfield any evening of the week, you would probably think everything is back to normal and question, "why aren't we back on the field playing?"  The fact is that the fields are still closed for organized sports per the Governor of CA.  The teams playing are in direct violation of the Governors mandate.  But there is no one enforcing the order.  So, you may ask, "why don't we violate the order and get back and play?"    The simple answer is that we have been playing on Valley Wide fields for many years.  Wheatfield is managed by Vince and Tammy and they have been there for as long as our league has been playing at Wheatfield.   They have been very generous to our league over the years, only charging us $600/year for the field rentals.  As a comparison,  I have been told that Big League Dreams (BLD) charges $50/field/day.  If our league played at BLD, our annual field rental would be in excess of $8,000.  I point this out because we do not want to put Vince, Tammy or anybody at Valley Wide in the difficult position of enforcing the Governors mandate.  We continue to work with Valley Wide to prepare for the day the State and County allow organized sports to return. Your BOD has been working on a guideline for us to follow once we are allowed to play.  This will be published in the next week.

If we can get back on the field before September, we will play as many games as we can under summer rules. New teams will be selected by a committee, start times for the games will be 8am to minimize the heat and we will play 9 inning games.

We are all anxious to get started, but we have to wait for the State/County official word.  If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to me or any other board member.
